Welcome to the Denver Chapter of the Accounting & Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) Home page.

Our chapter provides women in accounting, business and finance evening dinner meetings throughout the year on various topics, which allow the opportunity for Continuing Professional Education (CPE). Chapter meetings offer networking with members, speakers and quests. The chapter is committed to recognizing outstanding accounting students, as well as providing yearly scholarship awards to students across the state.

We have many volunteer opportunities in our organization as a member of AFWA and as a part of the Rocky Mountain Area Conference. The Rocky Mountain Area Conference is a two day conference offering 16 hours of CPE credit which is jointly sponsored by AFWA, the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

Becoming involved is a great way to get to know fellow members, members of related organizations and experience the broader scope of what AFWA is all about.

Hello AFWA Denver Members,

Get motivated!

Thanks for being a GREAT group!  We are making good progress with our chapter but need to keep working on getting more attendance at our program meetings and nurturing new leadership.  Anyone interested in meeting with college accounting and finance students during campus visits, please let me know.  I also will be glad to introduce anyone considering an officer or chair position for next year an introduction to the Board and what we do.  Don’t be afraid to try a position, as other board members present and past, are there to support you in your job.  Our next Board Meeting is Monday, November 10 from 6:15 P – 8:45 P in Jeanine’s Board Room (RSVPs are needed for food and beverages count by Jeanine).

The National Conference was awesome although our attendance was lower than in past years.  We discussed many ideas for growing our chapter involvement.  One idea was to have program meetings at different times of day:  breakfasts, lunches, dinners.  Another idea that we are already working with is to visit students on the campuses.  We talked about the role of the President to motivate and direct others to do things in their organization.  Let me know if you would like to get together or talk on the phone about any of these ideas.  The more of us working toward a better organization, the better we can be.

We are going to the students at the local colleges and universities this year to let them know about AFWA and the benefits of joining.  It is fun to talk to the students and to answer their questions about our organization.  Please let me know if you would like to join us at one of our event tables. I also need to know of any contacts you may have for local accounting and finance clubs, career events, job fairs, or other similar events.
